We’re bringing splashyback

(I feel like I should apologise for that appalling Justin Timberlake pun. I mean, I’m not going to, and frankly this blog is chock full of puns for which I should apologise, but still) Greetings, my loyal Blandies. I’ve returned to shine a beacon of brightness in your boring lives again.  Again, not all heroes wear capes.  Following on from my heroic escapades (refer previous blog), I’m happy to report the splashbacks have been done; Stoked with the black, just quietly.  And the tiling in the bathrooms has been completed as much as it can before vanities go in; (This photo courtesy Mrs Bland Designs)  ( That shower though)  Wardrobe doors and runners have been fitted; (This also courtesy Mrs Bland Designs)  And carpet has been laid; (Plastic fitted to stop bastard tradies stomping on my new carpet with their muddy bloody boots)  The sparky pointed out today that some of our heated towel rails are ridiculously small (not his exact words) so we’re gonna ...

Not all heroes wear capes

The word “hero” is bandied about a lot these days. Unlike those frauds who pull orphans from burning buildings, however, it’s appropriate to apply it to me this week. Read on for the exciting story!  First things first this week; “No, no. ‘Danger’ is my middle name” In a super exciting turn of events, concrete was poured. Both driveways and assorted paths and patios and whatnot were poured.  You know you’re getting old when concrete is genuinely one of the high spots of your week. Sheesh.  But wait, that’s not all!  Various floors were tiled;  As well as various splashbacks; (Also pictured Sprog1’s Head) Anyway; without further ado, the hero story by which all future heroes will be measured. Picture this, if you will; Your hero (me, natch) arrives on site on Wednesday morning to a tiler who is confused be the spec he has and in particular about the colour of various bits and pieces.  I resolve his issue (by telling him I’ll check with my wife) and take my l...

Greetings Blandies, Bad news on the “nearly done” front this week, but first, the progress; Sparkies were in for final fix; This isn’t quite done. But it looks cool.  The switches come in both “on” *and* “off modes. I know, right? The stone benches were installed, along with the fancy pants sinks that long-time readers will recall we bought *ages* ago (got a bargain one night in Toorak).  They look amazeballs, as the cool kids say. Do they still say that? I dunno. Let’s just say they do, yeah? Sweet.  The tiles arrived; along with some of the appliances.  And the wooden flooring went in; And the waterproofing went on; This stuff stank. But the guy was happily painting it on like it was NBD. Apparently, this should be been done some time ago; this is part of the issue we’re now faced with.  And now the bad news, my loyal subjects.  In a chance meeting with the PM yesterday, he casually mentioned the date we’ve been working towards the whole time, might be op...

Super big week - it’s getting closer

Rejoice Blandies, for I have returned to brighten up your workaday lives for a brief while again!  Huge amount of work since I last graced you with my presence, I’m not even sure when to begin.  Here goes; *deep breath* The boxing for the concrete driveways and paths went in; The painting guys finished (other than touch ups right at the end), and rehung the doors; I always wondered how the painted the doors. And now I know. And so do you. You’re welcome.  And they painted the front doors! There’s another coat due. Look at that yellow though! Not for too long, Cos it’ll burn your retinas right out.  The plumbing fittings were delivered; Toilets and whatnot. In the garage for now  And I think of the bathroom delivery guys was a bit of a badass  “You’re not the boss of me, box. Yolo, etc” And, most importantly and excitingly of all, the kitchens have been delivered! (Trucks not included) And then a dedicated tradie did a 12 hour day to get them all installed....
