All I want for Xmas, is roooOooooof

Well, tough Shit. Cos I'm not getting it.  Talking to the project manager today, he told me that, despite his earlier assertions, we're not gonna have the roof on (and building wrapped and joinery in) before Christmas after all.  This is because he's a lying sack of sh  of the inherent delays most builds suffer. Just cos, essentially.  He is trying to get the roofing contractors in over the Xmas/NY break, which would mean we end up not too far behind schedule.  Other things I learned today, in no particular order; The traditional "roof shout" isn't really a thing anymore. But we can put one on if we want to The drainlayer is aware of his cock up (no floor wastes, Jedward, Jesus) and is gonna fix it when he comes back for first fix. Sometime towards the end of January I suppose.  Our joinery is in production now. Only the massive stacker isn't stock, so it shouldn't take long.  Our builder will be building the house next door too. Handy to yell at him i...

Alllllmost ready for roofing

According to the heart stoppingly large invoice we got on Friday afternoon, the roof framing was complete. So we went for a wander up to have a look.  Appears the invoice was right.  If I understand correctly, the wrap means the roof is done. The building wrap has to go under the rafter bits. Or something.  They've also put the steel strapping in (which I assume is structural but I really have no idea; Pictured; steel strapping. Also pictured, typical Auckland delightful weather And they've started building the valleys for the roof.  As I walk through the valley of the roof, I will fear no evil. Or something.  Last time I spoke to the project manager, he was pretty confident that we'd have the roof on and windows in before they broke for Xmas. Which give them a week to put the roof on, wrap the building, and put all the joinery in (including the big bastard stacker).  Seems a big ask to me, but what do I know? We also need the heatpump company in for their ...

It's taking shape!

In the latest exciting update; most of the roof framing is up; This is looking towards the back of the house, from the alley.  Basically, the only benefit to the stinking hot weather we've been having is that the framing isn't being delayed by rain. The PM is confident we're not losing any time on this build Cos of wet framing.  The downside is that the Sprogs are in one bedroom. Getting them to sleep in a hot muggy room is hard enough, when they act up for each other it's another level.  We have a ducted heat pump going into the house. Can't wait until they're in their own rooms with air conditioning.  Look at how big that door is! Awesome! Also pictured, gorgeous weather

A matter of truss

So, we had the first official site visit yesterday. As we arrived at the site, we saw the truck delivering the roof trusses  Sadly, he wouldn't let me have a go with his crane. Spoilsport.  Following a highly technical site induction (essentially, "don't do anything dumb"), we got to walk around site with the Project Manager. Who was able to confirm that yes, indeed, they had forgotten the floor drains. As a bonus, they'd also made the recess for the shower too small.  Morons  So, they've gotta fix that too.  Apparently it's not gonna kill our timeline. Part of our dastardly plan to delay the build for the better weather has the PM's seal of approval who expects no delay due to wet framing. Choice.  Also appears the company found their invoicing book today Cos they raised an absolute shitload of invoices today.  Still on track for roof and windows before Xmas. Huzzah!
